Gillespie
Pass
A 3 to 4 day 58km wilderness circuit offering epic trekking
and hiking admist spectacular New Zealand alpine scenery:
- Enjoy trekking and hiking in native rainforest and pristine
river valleys overlooked by the rugged snow capped Mt Awful
and Mt Alba, with an overnight stay at the Young hut.
- Climb the stunning Gillespie Pass (1490m) before descending
to the Siberia Valley for an overnight stay in the Siberia hut.
- Trek to Lake Crucible, a stunning alpine lake nestled under
Mt Alba, before meeting your helicopter or jet boat in the Siberia
Valley for a return to Makarora.
- High Energy Level – Experienced Trampers
Alpine Lakes
- Stunning day trekking and hiking from Top Forks in the Wilkin
Valley, following the North branch of the Wilkin River to Lake
Diana and Lake Lucidus, a spectacular moraine lake.
- Medium Energy Level
Rabbit Pass
- Challenging trekking and hiking amoungst stunning wilderness
areas, starting from Top Forks with access by helicopter or
jet boat safari.
- Trek in native forest and alpine herbfields before climbing
to Rabbit Pass, with spectacular views of Mt Aspiring National
Park, and a descent to the East Matukituki Valley.
